Gluten Free - Yep thats me!

Lately there has been a lot of speculation about Gluten and/or Wheat intolerances amongst the Australian Press, and in my own personal attempt to give up Gluten, I decided it was time to do some research of my own and find out what all this gluten free stuff was about :P
First of all it is significant to clarify what Gluten is, as most folks aren't too familiar with what Gluten actually is, let alone what it does to their bodies. 

Gluten as quoted by the English Medical Dictionarya mixture of insoluble plant proteins occurring in cereal grains,chiefly corn and wheat, used as an adhesive and as a floursubstitute.

Is a protein composite found in foods processed from wheat and related grain species, including barley and rye Giving  elasticity to dough, helping it rise and keep its shape and often gives the final product a chewy texture. Gluten may also be found in some cosmetics, hair products, and other dermatological preparations.

Gluten Effects all of us in some way, for those who don't suffer any intolerance to it (yet), may not be aware of the actually damages it still does to your internal bodily system. 

(1.Gluten is a foreign "man made, processed" substance. Your gut reacts by sending antibodies to attack this unknown substance causing your immune system to become hyper alert with auto-immune components thus   attacking its own tissue, eating away at your gut lining. 
2. When your  gut is damaged, you then do not absorb ANY nutrients.


3. Gluten  messes with the gall bladder and bile production. If you do not absorb fats and fat soluble nutrients such as vitamins A, D, K, and other nutrients, you will have problems utilising any minerals you do absorb, to say nothing of the nutrient deficiencies from inadequate essential fats.


4. Once the gut lining is damaged, we are at exceptionally high risk of  disease and the pancreas is assailed by grain-induced inflammation due to CCK problems and elevated insulin levels. In a society that demands instantaneous solutions, instant fixings and instant meals Gluten  is effecting more and more people everyday - all of whom are consuming way to much of this Gluey poison that was never meant to be consumed in the first place. 
Wheat Bix for breaky, sandwiches for lunch, pasta for dinner! Sound like you? Hmmm!

The long term effects of Gluten are  stated in the The New England Journal of Medicine,  which lists over 55 diseases that can be 'caused' by eating too much gluten E.g. Oosteoporosis, irritable bowel disease, inflammatory bowel disease, anaemia, cancer, fatigue, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, multiple sclerosis, and almost all other autoimmune diseases.

Sarah Wilson writes a fantastic and might I add thorough blog on Gluten intolerance's and the effects of it. She quotes,
 "The short form: gluten is a poison (see below). We tolerate it, and tolerate it, like cigarettes in the lungs.And then. One day. It’s too much. Things tip over and BANG we have lung cancer. Or gluten intolerance. Or celiac’s disease."
This statement holds so much truth for me! Since learning the effects this stuff has had on my own body,  I absolutely encourage an anti gluten lifestyle - steering clear of Duran wheat / wheat products as much as one
possibly can.

For anyone ( like myself ) who loves all wheat products, cereals, pastas, breads, cakes, pastries, I understand this comes as a huge huge ask! But after just researching some of the studies done on Gluten, and realising the poisonous effects that this sticky, unnatural substance does to your body, I realise now, that no amount of tastiness, can compensate for my own bodies internal health and happiness.Life is too precious - Life is a gift to all of us. I try to live everyday appreciating all my blessings - both my arms, legs, eyes, and especially the body that can do so much more then be a garbage guts for nasty eating.  There are just some things that people were not meant to consume! Period. And that is my opinion.
